Make the process usable by the next person
How we help
A process can exist in a manager’s head but still fail when that person is absent. Long instructions also get ignored if they do not match the actual screen, handoff or decision the employee faces during a busy working day.
BrownBag documents the agreed way of working with the people who perform the tasks. We organise procedures by role, include real operating decisions and use practice scenarios to check that the team can follow the process without relying on unwritten explanations.

How the work is handled
Observe roles and handoffs
Review selected tasks from start to finish, including inputs, system steps and completion evidence. Identify ownership gaps, conflicting instructions and the exceptions staff currently resolve through informal messages.
Write procedures and working aids
Create concise SOPs, task checklists and escalation guidance around the approved process. Add relevant screen references and define who maintains the document when a system or operating rule changes.
Practise and refine with the team
Run role-based walkthroughs using representative orders or support cases. Ask staff to complete the task and explain exceptions, then revise unclear instructions and hand over the training and review materials.

Your questions, answered
Can training cover only one department?
Yes. Start with the workflow creating the most friction, such as order confirmation or returns. We still record its upstream and downstream handoffs so the department’s procedure fits the wider operation.
How do we keep the SOPs current?
Each procedure needs an owner, version record and review trigger. We include those responsibilities in the handover and show how system changes or recurring exceptions should lead to a controlled document update.
