Product-first sourcing support
Private label & custom manufacturing
Translate a brand concept into a manufacturing brief covering specifications, samples, packaging and production decisions.
The buying decision
Put the right questions before the order.
Adding a logo to stock and developing a new product are different manufacturing projects. Tooling, testing, design ownership and change control can materially affect cost and timing.
How the work moves forward
- 01
Define the customization
Separate stock-product branding from material changes, formulation, new tooling or original design. Establish required dimensions, artwork formats, labels and acceptance criteria.
- 02
Compare manufacturing capability
Research OEM or ODM candidates and request samples, tooling terms, packaging minimums and development milestones. Check who owns designs, moulds and production files.
- 03
Approve before production
Document revisions, approved samples, inspection points and responsibility for changes. Confirm the exact production specification and commercial scope before a bulk commitment.
What you take forward
- A product and packaging development brief
- OEM/ODM capability and sample comparison
- An approval plan for artwork, tooling, samples and production
We agree deliverables, evidence requirements, timing and responsibilities before work starts. Supplier terms, third-party costs and BrownBag’s service fee are recorded separately.
Questions before you start
Does private label require a new mould?
Not always. Branding an existing product may use existing tooling, while changes to shape or construction can require development. We identify the distinction before comparing quotes.
Are certification and resale rights included automatically?
No. Required tests, labels, intellectual-property rights and destination requirements need explicit review and may require qualified specialists.
