Cost the stock you can sell

What will each sellable unit really cost to receive?

A supplier quotation is only one part of the buying cost. Bring the batch's goods, transport, duties and handling together, then spread that total across the units you can actually sell.

MAKE THE INPUTS USEFUL

Before you begin.

Enter costs for one complete batch

Use total goods cost, freight and insurance, duties and taxes, and handling or other costs for the same shipment. Check quotation terms to avoid adding a charge already included in another amount.

Use duty and tax amounts

The duties and taxes field takes a money amount, not a percentage. Obtain an estimate for the actual shipment separately; this tool does not select customs classifications or determine recoverable tax.

Count sellable units

Enter the number of usable units received or reasonably expected. Exclude damaged or unusable stock from that count. Convert all cost estimates into one currency before using the tool.

What your result means.

Total batch cost shows the combined buying and receiving commitment. Landed cost per unit spreads it across your sellable stock, making supplier comparisons more useful. The result is a cost input for pricing; it does not include later selling, customer delivery or marketing costs unless you explicitly entered them.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Understand the decision.

Why is the supplier price not the full cost of the product?

The tool adds total goods cost, freight and insurance, duties and taxes, and handling or other costs for the same batch. It divides that total by sellable units received. Use the complete receiving cost rather than just the supplier's product price when comparing stock options.

What if my supplier quote already includes shipping?

Check the quote terms first. Enter each charge once; adding the same freight cost separately would inflate the estimate.

Can I compare two suppliers with different minimum order quantities?

Run each realistic order as a separate scenario using its own goods cost, shipment charges and sellable quantity. Compare both Landed cost per unit and Total batch cost: a lower unit cost can require a larger stock and cash commitment.

Can I use the result as the final import tax amount?

No. Duties and taxes are a money amount you supply; the calculator does not select a customs classification or calculate tax rates. It includes your entered amount in the batch cost, so obtain that shipment estimate before using the result for a buying decision.
